Sock-Filtered Coffee

Prep Time 5 min
Servings 4
Difficulty Easy

Traditional Costa Rican pour-over coffee filtered through a cloth bolsita (sock filter) mounted on a wooden stand, producing an exceptionally smooth, full-bodied brew.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp medium-ground Costa Rican coffee
  • 4 cups hot water (just off boil, about 93C)
  • Tapa de dulce or sugar to taste
  • Milk (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1 Place the cloth bolsita (filter sock) in the chorreador stand.
  2. 2 Add ground coffee to the filter.
  3. 3 Slowly pour hot water over the grounds in a circular motion, allowing it to drip through.
  4. 4 Let the coffee filter completely — this takes 3-4 min.
  5. 5 Serve black or with tapa de dulce for sweetness. Add milk if desired.
