A tangy, herbaceous yogurt drink blended with mint, coriander, and green chilli — Bangladesh's digestive elixir served at weddings and feasts.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups thick yogurt
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 tsp cumin, roasted and ground
  • 1 tsp black salt (bit salt)
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. 1 Blend yogurt, mint, coriander, and green chillies until smooth.
  2. 2 Strain through a fine sieve to remove fiber for a silky texture.
  3. 3 Add cold water, roasted cumin, black salt, sugar, and regular salt.
  4. 4 Whisk or blend briefly to combine.
  5. 5 Serve in tall glasses over ice.

Did You Know?

At Bangladeshi weddings, borhani is served immediately after the heavy biryani course, and guests consider it rude not to drink at least one glass.
