Montevideo's signature cocktail — a refreshing blend of half dry sparkling wine and half sweet white wine, served ice-cold in a tall glass with a light golden sparkle.

Ingredients

  • 100ml dry sparkling wine, well chilled
  • 100ml sweet white wine (muscatel or similar), well chilled

Instructions

  1. 1 Chill both wines thoroughly before serving.
  2. 2 Pour sweet white wine into a tall glass.
  3. 3 Slowly pour sparkling wine on top.
  4. 4 Stir gently once to combine. Serve immediately while cold and fizzy.

Medio y Medio was invented at the historic Roldós bar in Montevideo's Ciudad Vieja and can still be ordered there today — the original recipe has remained unchanged for over a century.
