The Story Behind Assida Zgougou
Assida zgougou is Tunisia's most iconic celebration dessert, prepared exclusively for Mawlid an-Nabi, the Prophet Muhammad's birthday. The Aleppo pine seeds that form the base grow in the forests of northern Tunisia, making this a uniquely Tunisian creation. The dramatic contrast between the dark, earthy pine base and the white cream topping, decorated with jewel-like nuts, makes it as visually striking as it is culturally significant.
