The Story Behind Orgeade
Orgeade arrived in Suriname via the Dutch colonial connection, originally derived from the French orgeat syrup made from almonds and orange flower water. In Suriname, it became simplified into a sweet almond-flavored syrup drink, always tinted the characteristic pink color. The drink became so embedded in Surinamese culture that it remains the default celebration beverage, served alongside cake at every birthday and holiday gathering.
