Solčava Cheese Strudel

A savory cheese-filled pastry from the Solčava valley, made with fresh cottage cheese, eggs, and cream wrapped in tender rolled dough.

Ingredients

  • 300g all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • Warm water as needed
  • 500g fresh cottage cheese
  • 3 eggs for filling
  • 100ml sour cream
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 50g butter, melted
  • Breadcrumbs for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. 1 Make dough with flour, egg, oil, salt, and warm water. Knead until smooth, rest 30 min.
  2. 2 Mix cottage cheese with eggs, sour cream, chives, and salt until smooth.
  3. 3 Roll dough very thin on a floured cloth. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  4. 4 Spread cheese filling evenly across the dough.
  5. 5 Roll up tightly using the cloth, place seam-side down on a buttered baking sheet.
  6. 6 Brush top with butter and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 40-45 min until golden. Slice and serve warm.
