Thick slices of Edam or Gouda cheese coated in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs, deep-fried to a molten-centered golden perfection. Slovakia's favorite fast food.

Ingredients

  • 4 thick slices Edam cheese (1.5cm)
  • 100g all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 150g fine breadcrumbs
  • Salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Tartar sauce
  • French fries

Instructions

  1. 1 Pat cheese slices dry. Set up breading station: flour, beaten eggs, breadcrumbs.
  2. 2 Coat each slice in flour, dip in egg, then press into breadcrumbs. Double-bread for extra crunch.
  3. 3 Heat oil to 175°C (350°F).
  4. 4 Fry cheese 2-3 minutes until golden brown, turning once.
  5. 5 Drain on a wire rack. Serve immediately while cheese is still molten.
  6. 6 Accompany with tartar sauce, fries, and a cold beer.
