A creamy cod and vegetable salad in mayonnaise, served on sliced bread or rolls. The iconic Slovak snack found at every deli counter.

Ingredients

  • 400g smoked cod or pollock, flaked
  • 200g mayonnaise
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 pickled gherkins, diced
  • 1 hard-boiled egg, diced
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • Salt and pepper
  • Sliced bread or rolls
  • Lemon juice

Instructions

  1. 1 Flake the smoked fish into small pieces, removing any bones.
  2. 2 Mix with mayonnaise, diced onion, gherkins, egg, mustard, and lemon juice.
  3. 3 Season with salt and pepper.
  4. 4 Chill for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld.
  5. 5 Spread generously on sliced bread or rolls.
  6. 6 Serve as a cold snack or light lunch.
