Steamed Buns with Filling

Fluffy steamed yeast buns filled with plum jam, poppy seeds, or sweet curd cheese, served drizzled with melted butter and powdered sugar.

Ingredients

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 200ml warm milk
  • 7g dry yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 60g sugar
  • 60g butter, softened
  • Pinch salt
  • 200g plum jam (povidla)
  • Melted butter
  • Powdered sugar
  • Ground poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. 1 Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let foam 10 min.
  2. 2 Mix flour, eggs, sugar, butter, salt, and yeast mixture into a soft dough. Knead 10 min.
  3. 3 Let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  4. 4 Punch down, divide into pieces. Flatten each, place a spoonful of plum jam, seal into buns.
  5. 5 Place buns seam-down in a steamer basket. Let rise 15 min.
  6. 6 Steam over boiling water for 15-18 minutes. Serve drizzled with melted butter and powdered sugar.
