The Story Behind Ulu Umu
Breadfruit was brought to Samoa by the earliest Polynesian voyagers over 3,000 years ago. It became a cornerstone crop, so vital that breadfruit trees are considered family property passed down through generations. The umu-roasted preparation is the oldest and most traditional way to enjoy this staple.
