Norwegian Meatballs

Traditional Norwegian meatballs made with ground beef and spices, served in a rich brown gravy with boiled potatoes and lingonberry jam.

Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 3 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 100ml milk
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 500ml beef broth

Instructions

  1. 1 Mix ground beef with grated onion, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Let rest 15 minutes.
  2. 2 Shape into oval patties about 8cm long. Brown in butter on medium-high heat, turning once.
  3. 3 Remove meatballs. Add flour to pan drippings, stir until golden. Gradually whisk in broth to make gravy.
  4. 4 Return meatballs to gravy, simmer 20 minutes until cooked through. Serve with boiled potatoes and lingonberry jam.
