A hearty North Korean comfort dish of crispy pan-fried tofu served over steamed rice with a savory soy-sesame sauce, pickled vegetables, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

Ingredients

  • 400g firm tofu, sliced 1cm thick
  • 2 cups cooked short-grain rice
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 1 tsp gochugaru
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 50g pickled radish
  • Sesame seeds
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. 1 Press tofu slices between towels for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. 2 Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Pan-fry tofu slices for 3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  3. 3 Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, gochugaru, and sugar into a sauce.
  4. 4 Place steamed rice in bowls. Arrange crispy tofu slices on top.
  5. 5 Drizzle sauce over the tofu and rice. Garnish with green onion, sesame seeds, and pickled radish.
