Silky slices of warm steamed tofu paired with sizzling stir-fried aged kimchi in sesame oil, a classic combination where the mild tofu tempers the bold, tangy kimchi.

Ingredients

  • 400g firm tofu
  • 200g aged kimchi, sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 1 tsp gochugaru
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. 1 Bring a pot of water to a gentle boil. Slide in the whole block of tofu and warm for 5 minutes.
  2. 2 Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over high heat. Add kimchi and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until slightly caramelized.
  3. 3 Add sugar and gochugaru to the kimchi, toss for 1 more minute. Finish with sesame oil.
  4. 4 Remove tofu from water, slice into 1cm-thick pieces. Arrange on one side of a plate.
  5. 5 Pile the stir-fried kimchi alongside the tofu. Garnish with green onion and sesame seeds.
