Did You Know?
Tuareg cooks can tell the exact temperature of the sand by touch and know precisely when taguella is done by the sound it makes when tapped.
The Story Behind Taguella
Taguella is the iconic bread of the Tuareg people, developed for nomadic life in the Sahara where no oven exists. The technique of sand-baking is ancient, possibly predating metal cookware. It sustained caravans crossing the world's largest desert and remains a vital part of Tuareg identity.
