Puffy, golden Montenegrin doughnuts — light and airy inside, crisp outside — served drizzled with honey or dusted with sugar.

Ingredients

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 7g instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 300ml warm milk
  • 1 egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Honey or powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. 1 Mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm milk and egg, stir to a soft sticky dough.
  2. 2 Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  3. 3 Heat oil to 180C (350F) in a deep pot.
  4. 4 With wet hands, pinch off walnut-sized pieces and drop into hot oil.
  5. 5 Fry 2-3 min per side until puffed and deep golden.
  6. 6 Drain on paper towels and drizzle with honey or dust with powdered sugar.
