Spam and Rice Cake

Grilled spam on pressed rice wrapped with nori seaweed. A hugely popular Pacific island snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 can spam (beef), sliced
  • 3 cups cooked sushi rice
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Nori seaweed sheets
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Plastic wrap

Instructions

  1. 1 Slice spam into 6 even pieces.
  2. 2 Mix soy sauce and sugar, marinate spam 5 minutes.
  3. 3 Pan-fry spam slices until caramelized on both sides.
  4. 4 Season rice with rice vinegar and sesame oil.
  5. 5 Press rice into rectangular blocks using the spam can as mold.
  6. 6 Place spam on rice and wrap with nori strip.
