A fresh, tangy salad of shredded banana blossom tossed with grated coconut, onion, chili, curry leaves, and lime juice, served as a side dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 banana blossom, outer petals removed
  • 1 cup grated fresh coconut
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 green chili, minced
  • 6 curry leaves, finely sliced
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

  1. 1 Remove tough outer petals from the banana blossom. Quarter it and remove the small flowers inside each petal.
  2. 2 Finely shred the tender inner petals. Soak in cold water with lime juice to prevent browning.
  3. 3 Drain shredded blossom well and squeeze out excess water.
  4. 4 Toss with grated coconut, onion, chili, curry leaves, lime juice, salt, and sugar.
  5. 5 Mix well so the coconut and lime coat every strand of banana blossom evenly.
  6. 6 Serve immediately as a refreshing side dish alongside rice and fish curry.
