Luxembourgish Carnival Fritters

Twisted, golden carnival fritters dusted with powdered sugar, light and crispy with a subtle hint of brandy in the dough.

Ingredients

  • 400g all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 60g butter, melted
  • 60g sugar
  • 2 tbsp brandy or kirsch
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. 1 Mix flour, eggs, melted butter, sugar, brandy, lemon zest, and salt into a smooth dough. Knead briefly.
  2. 2 Rest the dough covered for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  3. 3 Roll out very thin on a floured surface. Cut into rectangles about 10cm x 5cm.
  4. 4 Cut a slit in the center of each rectangle. Pull one end through the slit to create a twist.
  5. 5 Deep-fry at 175°C (345°F) for 1-2 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  6. 6 Drain on paper towels and dust generously with powdered sugar while still warm.
