A savory Luxembourgish tart filled with creamy local cheese baked until golden and puffed, rich and tangy with a buttery crust.

Ingredients

  • 250g shortcrust pastry
  • 300g Kachkéis (Luxembourgish cooked cheese) or similar soft cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 200ml heavy cream
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and white pepper
  • Fresh chives, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1 Sauté diced onion in butter until translucent. Cool.
  2. 2 Roll out pastry and line a buttered tart pan. Prick base with fork. Blind bake at 180°C for 10 min.
  3. 3 Whisk together cheese, eggs, cream, sautéed onion, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. 4 Pour filling into the pre-baked pastry shell.
  5. 5 Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30-35 minutes until set and golden brown on top.
  6. 6 Rest 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, garnished with chives.
