Tender pickled herring fillets dressed in a rich sour cream sauce with sweet onion rings, a classic Baltic appetizer for holidays and celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 500g pickled herring fillets
  • 250ml sour cream
  • 2 medium sweet onions, thinly sliced into rings
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • Fresh dill for garnish
  • Black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1 Rinse herring fillets briefly, pat dry, and slice into 2cm pieces.
  2. 2 Mix sour cream with sugar, vinegar, and black pepper.
  3. 3 Layer herring pieces with onion rings in a serving dish.
  4. 4 Pour sour cream mixture over the top, ensuring everything is coated.
  5. 5 Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours. Garnish with fresh dill before serving.
