Potato Dumplings with Poppy Seeds

Smooth, bite-sized potato dumplings tossed in melted butter and sweet poppy seed sauce, a traditional Christmas Eve dish.

Ingredients

  • 1kg starchy potatoes, peeled
  • 150g potato starch
  • Salt
  • 60g butter
  • 100g poppy seeds, ground
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp hot water

Instructions

  1. 1 Boil potatoes until tender. Drain, rice, and cool slightly.
  2. 2 Mix riced potatoes with potato starch and salt to form a smooth dough.
  3. 3 Shape into small round dumplings about 3cm in diameter.
  4. 4 Boil in salted water until they float, about 4-5 min. Remove with a slotted spoon.
  5. 5 Mix ground poppy seeds with sugar and hot water to form a paste. Melt butter.
  6. 6 Toss hot dumplings in melted butter, then spoon poppy seed mixture over. Serve warm.
