The Story Behind Zhent
Zhent is one of the few traditional Kazakh desserts, reflecting the nomadic preference for foods that combined maximum calories with portability. Millet was one of the few grains that nomads cultivated or traded for, and mixing it with butter and dried fruits created a durable, nutritious sweet. Zhent was traditionally prepared for long journeys and celebrations, and remains a beloved tea-time treat.
