Green Bean Rice

A comforting one-pot dish of basmati rice layered with seasoned ground beef, green beans, and tomato sauce, topped with crispy golden tahdig.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups basmati rice, soaked
  • 300g ground beef
  • 400g green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. 1 Sauté onion until golden. Add ground beef, cook until browned. Add turmeric, cinnamon, pepper.
  2. 2 Add green beans and tomato paste. Cook 5 min. Season with salt.
  3. 3 Parboil rice until just al dente. Drain.
  4. 4 Layer rice and meat-bean mixture in a buttered pot. Add 2 tbsp water.
  5. 5 Cover tightly, cook on low 45 min for crispy tahdig.
  6. 6 Serve mixed or layered with tahdig on the side.
