Iceland's famous lamb hot dog topped with raw and crispy fried onions, ketchup, sweet mustard, and remoulade. A national street food icon.

Ingredients

  • 4 Icelandic lamb hot dogs (pylsur)
  • 4 steamed hot dog buns
  • 4 tbsp raw white onion, finely diced
  • 4 tbsp crispy fried onion
  • Icelandic pylsusinnep (sweet brown mustard)
  • Ketchup
  • Remoulade sauce

Instructions

  1. 1 Simmer hot dogs in water at 80°C for 5-8 minutes (do not boil or they may split).
  2. 2 Steam the buns briefly over the simmering water.
  3. 3 Place a hot dog in each bun.
  4. 4 Add a line of remoulade first, then sweet mustard, then ketchup.
  5. 5 Top with raw diced onion and crispy fried onion.
  6. 6 Serve immediately — order it "eina með öllu" (one with everything).
