A vibrant orange spread of creamy sheep's cheese blended with paprika, butter, caraway, and onions — the essential Hungarian appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 250g fresh sheep cheese (or cream cheese mixed with feta)
  • 60g butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 2 tbsp finely minced onion
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp sour cream
  • Salt
  • Pinch of hot paprika

Instructions

  1. 1 Crumble the sheep cheese and mash with softened butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. 2 Add paprika, caraway seeds, minced onion, mustard, sour cream, and salt. Mix thoroughly until the spread turns a vibrant orange.
  3. 3 Taste and adjust seasoning — the spread should be savory, slightly sharp, and aromatic.
  4. 4 Mound onto a plate, shape decoratively. Sprinkle with hot paprika.
  5. 5 Refrigerate 30 min for flavors to meld. Serve with fresh bread or vegetable crudités.
