Light, fluffy deep-fried dough balls with a golden crust and soft interior, dusted with sugar and eaten as a beloved street snack.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. 1 Dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tsp sugar. Let stand 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. 2 Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Add eggs, melted butter, vanilla, and yeast mixture.
  3. 3 Knead into a soft dough, cover, and let rise 45 minutes.
  4. 4 Heat oil to 170°C (340°F). Pull small balls of dough and drop into oil.
  5. 5 Fry 3-4 minutes until puffed and golden, turning once.
  6. 6 Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm.
