A robust, brothy garlic soup with croutons and melted cheese, the legendary Czech hangover cure.

Ingredients

  • 10 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1L beef or chicken broth
  • 3 medium potatoes, diced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 4 slices stale bread, cubed
  • 100g grated cheese
  • Salt, pepper
  • Marjoram

Instructions

  1. 1 Melt butter, saute garlic briefly without browning.
  2. 2 Add broth, potatoes, caraway, and marjoram. Simmer 15 min until potatoes are tender.
  3. 3 Season with salt and pepper.
  4. 4 Toast bread cubes until golden.
  5. 5 Ladle soup into bowls, top with croutons and grated cheese.
  6. 6 Serve immediately while steaming hot.
