The Story Behind Dukunu

Dukunu bridges two continents of culinary tradition. The steamed corn preparation connects to ancient Maya tamale-making, while the name and technique also echo West African traditions of steamed corn and cassava preparations. In Belize, this convergence of traditions created a unique sweet treat that is beloved across all ethnic groups, particularly during harvest season.
