Ingredients

  • 8 beef sausages
  • 8 slices white bread
  • 2 large brown onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Tomato sauce (ketchup)
  • American-style mustard

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat barbecue or flat grill to medium-high heat.
  2. 2 Cook onions in oil on one side of the grill, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelised (15-20 min).
  3. 3 Grill sausages, turning frequently, for 10-12 min until cooked through and evenly browned.
  4. 4 Place one sausage diagonally across a slice of bread.
  5. 5 Top with a generous spoonful of caramelised onions.
  6. 6 Add tomato sauce, mustard, or both. Fold the bread around the sausage and serve.
